An evening of fine noise. Jason Soliday is a
stalwart member of the Chicago scene, having performed in many groups
(Gunshop, Mora, with members of TVPOW, etc.) and on
his own (under his own name and as Coeurl). He also runs the
excellent show-space Enemy.
Live, Soliday presents a dense and detailed sonic stew: heavy noise,
but informed by his years of improvising, gigging, recording, building,
and programming. Unlike so many young
pretenders-to-the-throne, Soliday does more than just find an engaging
sound and stick with it- he constantly shifts, feints, and dodges,
pulling the rug out from under you only to smother you in it
later. Shattered Hymen
is Vadim Spirkut's harsh noise project, aspiring, despite the name, not
to "power, control or violence but rather using volume, density and
dynamics as a means to alter consciousness." A devastating sonic
stew that does indeed blot out all conscious thought.
Also performing is long-time Philadelphia scene-guy and all around
thrasher Dave Smolen,
known for his densely-layered analog electronic collages, often
gesturing towards minimal techno. Scott Allison is a more recent transplant to
Philadelphia, having spent time performing and organizing in Washington
DC for many years. His work ranges from the quiet to the loud but
always shows a visceral engagement with his sundry analog
electronics. Scott also plays electronics in the freerock combo
Kohoutek.

means to alter consciousness. Influenced by Japanese noise, Swiss
Aktionists and a variety of psychedelic music. Dave
