Rhodri Davies improvisation workshop

University of Pennsylvania, Music Building (Room 101) 34th and Walnut Streets

Highly recommended!

Truly not to be missed!  We're very excited to share with you the Philadelphia debut of the phenomenal Welsh harpist Rhodri Davies, known for his long participation in British free improvisation and the seminal improvising groups the Sealed Knot and IST, among many others.  Davies also writes composed music and constructs performance pieces, and he is a highly-regarded interpreter of contemporary composed music.  Friday, Davies will improvise solo and in duo with Pew fellow and noted improviser Bhob Rainey as well as present the Philadelphia premiere of Eliane Radigue's "OCCAM 1," written specifically for and with Davies.

The following day, Davies conducts an improvised music workshop.

We highly, highly recommend not missing the very rare opportunity to hear both Rhodri Davies and Eliane Radigue's instrumental music.

Fanlab duo:
Daniel Fandino - modular synth
Brian Labycz - modular synth

As expected in any tyoe of duo, the exchange is what makes things interesting. I hate the use of the word 'conversation' but if electricity had a voice this is what it would be. Inflection through gesture and timbre. Comfortably at odds, patience and acknowledgment prevail equally,

Extreme Light Infrastructure:
Richard Kamerman - modular synth

Modular synthesis and process music. Unnecessarily complex signal flows. User error.

"Contrary to popular belief, a vacuum is not devoid of material but in fact fizzles with tiny mysterious particles that pop in and out of existence, but at speeds so fast that no one has been able to prove they exist. The Extreme Light Infrastructure Ultra-High Field Facility would produce a laser so intense that scientists say it would allow them to reveal these particles for the first time by pulling this vacuum "fabric" apart. They also believe it could even allow them to prove whether extra-dimensions exist." - Gray, Richard (30 Oct 2011). "World's most powerful laser to tear apart the vacuum of space".
