"Though still rooted in extreme texture, Shiflet's excellent
self-released album, Llanos, is a pink haze of layered drone-goo,
wrapped in static and led by a melodic return to the guitar." - NPR's

Come see why Mike Shiflet is
getting
all
the
hype
(seriously
- blog love from NPR, a wealth of rave
reviews, upcoming records on the esteemed Type label, a bunch of
festival appearances) as he brings his new guitar-based setup to Philly.
Jeff
Zeigler, known and loved
for fronting Arc in Round (formerly Relay) for many years and
recording/mixing Kurt Vile and about a million others, plays a rare
solo set.
FUN,
the
duo
of
Newton
(Mat
Rademan) and Jonny Wray, put microphones to
breath, water, air, boring actions, chopping, wood, etc. exposing the
mundane for what it is: FUN.

Bios: Mike
Shiflet is a sound artist from in
Columbus, Ohio. His composition and performance techniques involve a
combination of guitar, analog noise generators and Macintosh computer.
The end result is a mix of rich drones, fluttering noises and
underlying hints of melody. His self-released 2010 recording, Llanos,
received national and international acclaim from outlets such as NPR,
The Wire, and Pitchfork. His forthcoming full-lengths will be released
by the highly esteemed Type Records.
In addition to recording as a solo artist, he has been involved in a
variety of groups ranging from the violin-led improv group Burning Star
Core and the laptop duo Scenic Railroads to performance troupe Noumena
and cathartic sludge/noise band Sword Heaven. He ran GMBY Records
(known as Gameboy before legal threats from Nintendo) from 1998 until
2008 and released exactly 100 albums by experimental sound and noise
artists from across the globe.
FUN -
group
comprised
of
2 carbon based lifeforms, show glimpses into a
literal, brutal & TRUE world.
Sounds with heavy concepts behind them, mostly focused around the lack
of of “true fun” interpreted in various ways and/or various sources.
Some maybe uncomfortably naked, bare, raw.
Others smushed up in the crowded subway car, rush hour.
Not for lovers of anything truly “fun” or even a vague interest in a “a
rad new band, i think i’ll check it out!”
PURE.
TRUE.
Not at all “right”
