bass clarinet and tapes
A great night of
stunning improvised music from the East coast to Berlin, in two
trans-Atlantic duos. Bonnie Jones plays open circuits (touching
cables directly to the insides of guitar pedals) along with microphones
and the occasional tape or voice. Shes is joined by the stunning
"innenklavier" (a custom-made instrument based on the inside of a
piano) work of Berliner Andrea
Neumann. Neumann
uses a series of microphones through a mixing board to examine the
particular sonorities
of her instrument. Check out an excellent video below.
You may know Gene
Coleman's work from his
many projects in Philadelphia with dance or film, or from his recent
PSF appearance with Toshimaru Nakamura, improvising on bass clarinet. This show, he pairs his
unique stylings with another Berliner, Werner Dafeldecker, veteran of an enormous range of
projects, from heading the group Polwechselto collaborating with Fennesz to work in the avant-pop group Autistic
Daughters. On
Saturday, he'll be playing tape machine.
